About Me
I have always had a love for public health and the study of human disease. I am currently a second year Ph.D student in environmental and public health at Oregon State University. I received a B.S. degree in Health Sciences from California State University, East Bay in 2012 where I decided to further study infectious pathogens such as environmental methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and the mechanisms of antibiotic resistance. I received a M.S. degree in biology with emphasis in microbiology from California State University, East Bay in 2014. In my masters research I studied water quality in Hilo Bay, HI and potential human pathogens from leaking underground water sources. This work involved molecular microbiology detection methods to determine the (microbial DNA) source of fecal pollution within Hilo Bay. Currently my research involves identifying and classifying bacterial diversity in after-school care programs in Oregon. I hope to implement prevention plans for infectious diseases identified as potential risks within these environments.
I have been married for 11 years, and am a mother of 5 girls, and three dogs. I like to explore new areas and learn new things. I believe that learning is a lifelong process and I am a perpetual student in life, always learning new things. In my free time I like to watch movies, go hiking, swimming, and cook with my daughters. Although I am new to Oregon, I feel like I am home!
